Letter dated 21st November, 1985 from the Minister for Justice to the Chairman of the Select Committee

Dear Dr. Woods,

I refer to your letter of 30th September regarding the Committee’s decision to invite me to attend a private meeting of the Committee to discuss the recent disturbances on Spike Island.

In view of the fact that there is now a motion, co-sponsored by yourself, before the Dail - the substance of which comprehends the subject matter of this correspondence - it would in inappropriate, in the circumstances, for me to get involved in any discussion of this matter in a sub-committee of the Dail. Consequently I am unable to consider further your invitation to attend a private meeting of the Committee.
