Dear Minister,

I refer to correspondence between the Clerk to the Committee and your Private Secretary about the disturbances which took place on 1st September on Spike Island.

The correspondence was considered by the Committee at its meeting on 25th September.

The Committee expressed disappointment and concern that you were not prepared to allow officials to attend a meeting of the Committee to discuss the riot and the surrounding circumstances, including the selection procedure and the plans to deal with any emergency.

The Committee decided to request you to attend at a private meeting of the Committee to discuss this matter. Accordingly, I would like to extend an invitation to you to attend such a meeting with the Committee at a date which is convenient for you.

Perhaps your Private Secretary would contact the Clerk to the Committee to arrange a mutually suitable date.
