STATIONERY OFFICE—MACHINES ON RENTAL.

During my examination by the Committee of Public Accounts on 9th May, 1974 I was asked to furnish a note of the cost of the various types of machines on rental to the Stationery Office.

The charges met by the Stationery Office for the rental and usage of Rank Xerox copiers in the year 1973 amounted to £110,342 made up as follows—

Rank Xerox copiers are the only photocopiers provided by the Stationery Office for the Public Services. Any other photocopiers required by Departments are provided by the Departments themselves and paid for from their own votes. In all cases the machines are selected by the Department of the Public Service which, it is understood, have tests carried out on all new photocopiers coming on the market and in deciding the type of machine to be installed, always consider cost, potential usage, copying speeds, servicing and quality of end product.
