PROCEEDINGS OF THE COMMITTEE

1. The Committee met at 10 a.m.


2. Members Present.


The following members were present:—


Deputy Patrick Hogan (in the Chair), Deputies Barrett, R. Burke, E. Collins, FitzGerald, H. Gibbons, Keating, MacSharry, Nolan, Treacy and Tunney.


3. Mr. E. F. Suttle (Comptroller and Auditor General) was in attendance in an advisory capacity.


4. Ordered: that Mr. John Kelly be not required to attend at today’s meeting.


5. The Committee considered a letter* of 23 February 1971 from the Commissioner of the Garda Síochána regarding its request for the reports referred to in his evidence by Chief Superintendent John P. Fleming.


Ordered: that the Commissioner be asked* to make the reports available in a form which would not include the additional material referred to in the letter.


6. Ordered: that the members of the Committee contact members of their respective parties regarding the undesirability of raising in the Dáil matters relating to the Committee.


7. Ordered: that the Committee of Selection be notified of the Chairman’s statement of 21 February 1971 in relation to Deputy Briscoe.


8. The Committee consulted with Mr. C. H. Murray, Secretary, Department of Finance


9. Mr. Murray withdrew.


10. Ordered: that the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries, Mr. James Gibbons, T.D. be required to attend.


11. Adjournment.


The Committee adjourned at 2 p.m. until 11 a.m. on Tuesday next.
