1. The Committee met at 10 a.m.


2. Members Present.


The following members were present:—


Deputy Patrick Hogan (in the Chair), Deputies Barrett, Briscoe, R. Burke, E. Collins, FitzGerald, H. Gibbons, Keating, MacSharry, Nolan and Tunney.


3. Mr. E. F. Suttle (Comptroller and Auditor General) was in attendance in an advisory capacity, accompanied by Mr. S. Mac Gearailt.


4. Witnesses Examined.


Examination of Mr. C. H. Murray, Secretary, Department of Finance, accompanied by Mr. A. J. Fagan, was resumed in private session.

The sitting was suspended at 11.40 a.m. until 12.5 p.m. today.

21. Ordered: that Messrs. B. Gleeson, D. Carroll, M. Power and P. J. Morrissey, Munster and Leinster Bank and Colonel Hefferon be required to attend.

Mr. William C. Walsh, Munster and Leinster Bank, was sworn and examined (accompanied by Mr. E. R. O’Connor, Solicitor).


24. Mr. Walsh withdrew.

26. The Committee consulted with the Commissioner of the Garda Síochána.


27. The Commissioner of the Garda Síochána withdrew.


28. Ordered: that Mr. J. H. Wright, Manager, Bank of Ireland, Clones, be required to attend.


29. Ordered: that the Chairman be empowered at his absolute discretion to rule that in any particular case a witness should not be pressed to state to the Committee the sources of information given by him to the Committee.


30. Ordered: that Deputies Blaney, Haughey and J. Gibbons, Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries, Leslie Bean T. de Barra, Miss M. Murphy, Messrs. S. Brady, S. Dowling, A. Luykx, R. Murnane, B. O’Donnell, E. Neeson and Captain J. J. Kelly be given notice that they may be required to attend, that they be required to send documents, and invited to send preliminary statements.
