APPENDIX XXIII.

LEINSTER HOUSE: BUILDING WORKS.

Cléreach,

An Coiste um Chuntais Phoiblí.

At the proceedings of the Public Accounts Committee on 4th November, 1965, I undertook to supply a note on the progress of the building works at Leinster House.

Work on the scheme is now at an advanced stage.

The following items have been completed:

(1) The Electrical sub-Station and Switchroom, new Central Heating Station with its equipment.

(2) The lodges for Ushers and Military Police at Kildare Street Gate.

(3) The gallery linking the Senate corridor with the landing outside the Dáil Chamber.

(4) The car-parking areas on Leinster Lawn.

(5) The new lift in Leinster House.

(6) Major alterations to the Press Block.

(7) Alterations on the ground floor of Leinster House, adjoining the main entrance hall.

The position in regard to the remainder of the work is as follows:

The new 6-story office block, with its services (heating, lighting, airconditioning) is nearing completion. Decoration is in progress and floor coverings are ready for delivery. The new offices should be ready for occupation about March, 1966, provided that no further delays occur through strikes or other causes.

Although the new kitchen and restaurants are expected to be structurally complete about Easter, 1966, installation of the kitchen equipment will not be completed for some weeks afterwards.

As soon as the 6-story block is occupied the adaptations necessary to provide improved accommodation in the vacated areas in Leinster House will be made. Normally this work should be completed in about 6-9 months but this period may have to be extended because of the need to avoid interference with sittings of the Dáil.
