APPENDIX XIV.

DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE: OVERPROVISION FOR PAY OF CLERK-TYPISTS.

An Cléireach,

An Coiste um Chuntais Phoiblí.

Office of the Minister for Justice.

In the course of my examination before the Committee of Public Accounts on the 21st October, 1965, I undertook to furnish details of the overprovision in Subhead A of the above Vote for the pay of Clerk-Typists.

The overprovision amounted to £3,800 and is explained as follows:—

In the Estimate the sum provided to meet an anticipated pay increase to Clerk-Typists was £5,400. The figure as advised by the Department of Finance was calculated on the basis of a probable all round increase of 12½% on the Clerk-Typist pay scale with due allowance for the back dating of the increase to the 1st November, 1961. As the Clerk-Typist staff in this Department is composed mainly of junior officers and due to unfilled vacancies in the grade, a sum of £1,600 was sufficient to meet the cost of the pay award which in the case of the earlier points on the salary scale ranged from about 2% to 10%. The saving of £9,004 shown for Subhead A is accounted for as follows:—
