DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION: AMALGAMATION OF ACCOUNTS OF FUNDS.

I am directed by the Minister for Education to refer to paragraph 22 of the Report of the Committee of Public Accounts on the Appropriation Accounts, 1960/61, in connection with the accounts of funds administered by this Department under various bequests and trusts and to advise you that the Minister for Finance has approved of the presentation of these accounts in the Appropriation Accounts for 1962/63 and subsequent years in a revised format. This new format will comprise—
(i) An Income and Expenditure Account.
(ii) A Capital Accounts.
(iii) A List of Securities held on 31st March of the relevant year.
I enclose, by way of illustration, the accounts for the year 1960/1 in the proposed new format.

Committee of Public Accounts.
The Committee has had before it your minute of 13th May, 1963, enclosing a draft of the proposed new format for showing, in the Appropriation Accounts, the details of the funds administered by your Department under various bequests and trusts.
I am to inform you that the Committee approves of the new format subject to a further table being included which will show the balance remaining unspent in each fund at the close of the relevant financial year.
