APPENDIX XIV.

GRANTS FOR WATER-SUPPLY SCHEMES IN GAELTACHT AREAS.

On the occasion of my appearance before the Public Accounts Committee on the 24th November, 1960, I was asked whether Roinn na Gaeltachta had reduced the rate of grants paid in respect of Water-Supply Schemes carried out by Local Authorities. I now wish to confirm that no change has been made in the rates of grants paid by Roinn na Gaeltachta.

These rates are as follows:—

For Regional Water-Supply Schemes: a grant of not more than 25% of the total cost. These schemes are partly financed by the Department of Local Government.

For minor water-supply schemes involving power or piping: a grant of not more than 60% of the total cost.

For other minor water-supply schemes: a grant of not more than 50% of the total cost.

The Department of Local Government does not give financial assistance towards the minor water-supply schemes.
