Committee Reports::Report - Appropriation Accounts 1955 - 1956::19 February, 1958::Appendix

APPENDIX XI.

GOODS RECEIVED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF DEFENCE IN AN UNSERVICEABLE CONDITION.

Cléireach,

An Coiste um Chuntais Phoiblí.

At the proceedings of the Committee of Public Accounts on the 11th July, 1957, I undertook to furnish a note regarding a payment of £6 in respect of goods received in an unserviceable condition and charged to Subhead “P” of the Vote for Defence in 1955/56.

Out of 1,000 Copper Testing Gauges, received from a supplier, 187 were found to be unserviceable. The supplier did not admit that any of the Gauges were unserviceable but charged for only 900 and insisted on payment accordingly. It was felt that no useful purpose would be served by contesting the matter further and, with the sanction of the Minister for Finance, it was decided to pay for 900 Gauges, including 87 unserviceable Gauges costing £6.
