COST OF HOUSES BUILT BY THE DEPARTMENT OF DEFENCE.

At the proceedings of the Committee of Public Accounts on the 11th July, 1957, I undertook to furnish a note regarding the comparative costs of the 88 houses built in Dublin by the Department of Defence for married soldiers and those built by local authorities.

The houses built by the Department cost £1,490 each. Somewhat similar houses built in Co. Dublin by contract for the local authority about the same time cost an average of £1,470 at one site and £1,566 at another. Prices in other parts of the country varied between £1,289 and £1,735.
