Explanatory Notes (a) Only eleven (11) issues of “Ar Aghaidh” were published during the financial year 1956/57. (b) Net sales for year ended 31st December, 1956. (c) A payable order for £124 1s. 9d., the grant payable in respect of the financial year 1956/57, was issued in March, 1957, but was not cashed in time and had to be re-issued and charged against the year 1957/58. Conditions for payment of Grants in respect of publication of matter in Irish in Newspapers. 1. The newspapers must be published in the Gaeltacht or in adjoining areas and must circulate in the Gaeltacht. Newspapers published outside the area at present under the jurisdiction of the Oireachtas which fulfil these conditions are eligible for the payment of grants. 2. The newspapers must contain at least two columns of Irish weekly. 3. So far as possible the material printed in Irish should consist of newsmatter or articles of topical interest. 4. The material printed in Irish should, as far as possible, be distributed throughout the news columns of the paper. 5. Payment of grants will be calculated at the following rates per column of matter printed in Irish:— Nil in respect of the first 1½ columns. 30/- per column in respect of matter in excess of 1½ columns but not in excess of 3 columns. 40/- per column in respect of the excess over 3 columns. 6. The total amount payable will be subject to arrangement in each particular case, but in no case shall it exceed £28 in respect of any one month. 7. The payment of grants will be terminable on two months notice or on the Oireachtas refusing to provide the necessary funds. |
