APPENDIX XIV.

ABANDONMENT OF CLAIM IN RESPECT OF BRITISH ADMIRALTY NAVIGATIONAL WARNINGS BROADCAST BY VALENTIA AND MALIN HEAD COAST STATIONS.

Cléireach,

An Coiste um Chuntais Phoiblí,

At the proceedings of the Public Accounts Committee on 24th November, 1955, I undertook to furnish fuller information on the abandonment of a claim for £187 10s. in respect of British Admiralty navigational warnings broadcast by Valentia and Malin Head Coast Stations.

Arising out of a misunderstanding in the British Administration there was delay in notifying the Valentia and Malin Head Coast Stations to cease broadcasting the British Admiralty navigational warnings, with the result that these coast stations continued the broadcasts until the omission to advise them was noticed.

The amount of the claim abandoned represents the charges which would have been made for the broadcasts, had they been required.

No extra expense was incurred by this Department in making the broadcasts.
