APPENDIX XIII.

EXPLANATION OF DROP IN FIGURE FOR TOTAL VALUE OF ENGINEERING STORES.

Cléireach,

An Coiste um Chuntais Phoiblí,

At the proceedings of the Public Accounts Committee on 24th November, 1955, I undertook to furnish a note explaining the drop in the figure for the total value of engineering stores handled during the year.

The drop in the total value of engineering stores handled in 1953/54 compared with the previous year was due to a big reduction in the quantity of stores purchased in the year, the figures being £594,911 in 1953/54 and £1,373,769 in 1952/53—a decrease of £778,858. Exceptional purchases of reserve stocks of the value of £730,000 were made in the year 1952/53.

There was, however, an increase of £121,735 in the value of stores issued to works in 1953/54 which resulted in the net decrease in the value of stores handled of £657,123.

A sum of £550,000 was charged to Telephone Capital Stores Suspense Account in 1952/53 but no charge was made to that account in 1953/54.
