THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE COMMITTEE.

1. The Committee met at 11 a.m.

2. Members Present.

The following members were present:

Deputy Sheldon (in the Chair), Deputies A. Barry, Bartley, J. Brennan, Carter, Mrs. Crowley, Desmond and T. Lynch.

3. Consideration of Apropriation Accounts, 1952-53.

Consideration of the Appropriation Accounts for the year 1952-53 was resumed. The following Accounts were disposed of:—Agriculture, Fisheries, Lands, Forestry, Gaeltacht Services, Office of the Minister for Social Welfare, Old Age Pensions, Children’s Allowances, Unemployment Insurance and Unemployment Assistance, Widows’ and Orphans’ Pensions, National Health Insurance, Miscellaneous Social Welfare Services and Social Insurance.

4. Witnesses Examined.

Mr. S. Ó Broin (Secretary, Department of Agriculture), Mr. T. O’Brien (Secretary, Department of Lands), Mr. P. J. Keady (Secretary, Department of Social Welfare), Mr. M. Breathnach, Mr. C. J. Byrnes and Mr. J. Mooney (Department of Finance) and the Comptroller and Auditor-General.
