During my examination by the Public Accounts Committee on 8th ultimo the Chairman requested information on what sum, if any, was on balance in respect of advances made by offices abroad on the repatriation and maintenance, of distressed citizens. The following figures in this connection relate to the period from 1945-46 to 1951-52, both years inclusive:—
