THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE COMMITTEE.

1. The Committee met at 11 a.m.


2. Members Present.


The following members were present:—


Deputy Sheldon (in the Chair), Deputies P. A. Brady, Mrs. Crowley, Cunningham, Hickey, McGrath, Ormonde, D. J. O’Sullivan and Palmer.


3. Consideration of Appropriation Accounts, 1951-52.


Consideration of the Appropriation Accounts for the year 1951-52 was resumed. The following Accounts were disposed of:—Office of the Minister for Social Welfare, Old Age Pensions, Children’s Allowances, Unemployment Insurance and Unemployment Assistance, Widows’ and Orphans’ Pensions, National Health Insurance, Miscellaneous Social Welfare Services, Agriculture, Fisheries and Comptroller and Auditor General.


4. Witnesses Examined.


Mr. D. J. O’Donovan (Secretary, Department of Social Welfare), Mr. S. Ó Broin (Secretary, Department of Agriculture), Mr. W. J. Kiely (Secretary, Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General), Mr. M. Breathnach (Department of Finance) and the Comptroller and Auditor General were examined.
