EXPENDITURE ON SAVINGS PUBLICITY AS IT AFFECTED SUBHEADS H. 3 (INCIDENTAL EXPENSES) AND T. 5 (APPROPRIATIONS IN AID).

In the original Estimate for 1950-51 a provision of £2,000 was made for Savings Publicity under Subhead H.3. At the Supplementary Estimate stage it was estimated that a further £7,000 would be required for this purpose but as H.3 is a subhead for Miscellaneous Incidental Expenditure it has been customary to offset expected excess by the general savings on other Subheads of the Vote and consequently specific provision for the additional sum required was not made in the Supplementary Estimate.

So far as Subhead T.5 was concerned a total receipt of £9,000 was correspondingly expected but in the final result expenditure during 1950-51 on Savings Publicity amounted to £6,975 9s. 8d. only. Of this amount £6,033 12s. 1d. was recovered during 1950-51 from Savings Bank funds and the balance in 1951-52.
