THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE SPECIAL COMMITTEE.

1. The Committee met at 7.30 p.m.

2. Members Present.

The following members were present:—

Deputy V. de Valera (in the Chair), the Minister for Defence, Deputies Brennan, Carter, Colley, Cowan, Davern Gallagher and Hilliard.

3. Consideration of Bill.

The Committee resumed consideration of the Bill.

(i) Section 97.

Debate was resumed on the following amendment proposed by Deputy Cowan on 26th March:—

“To delete subsection (2).”

Question put: the Committee divided: For, 1; Against, 6.

For:—Deputy Cowan.

Against:—Minister for Defence, Deputies Brennan, Carter, Colley, Gallagher and Hilliard.

The Question was declared negatived accordingly.

Amendment proposed (Minister for Defence):

“In subsection (3), line 37, to insert ‘in whole or in part’ after ‘Minister’.”

Question put, and agreed to.

Section, as amended, agreed to.

(ii) Section 98.

Amendment proposed (Deputy Cowan):

“In subsection (1), page 52, to delete paragraph (h).”

(iii) Sections 99 to 102 inclusive, agreed to.

(iv) Section 103.

Amendment proposed (Deputy Cowan):

“In subsection (3), to delete paragraph (a).”

(v) Section 104.

Amendment proposed (Minister for Defence):

“In subsection (1), paragraph (b), line 47, page 53, before ‘he’ to insert ‘or during a period during which reservists are called out on permanent service under section 88.”’

“In subsection (2), paragraph (a), line 3, page 54, to delete ‘as’ and substitute ‘or being’.”
