The following members were present:— Deputy V. de Valera (in the Chair), the Minister for Defence, Deputies Brennan, Carter, Colley, S. Collins, Cowan, Gallagher, Hilliard and Mac Fheorais. 3. Consideration of Bill. The Committee resumed consideration of the Bill. (i) Section 38. Amendment proposed (Deputy Cowan): “In subsection (1), line 8, to delete the words ‘victualling house’ and substitute the words ‘place of public refreshment’.” Amendment, by leave, withdrawn. Amendment proposed (Deputy Cowan): “In subsection (1), after paragraph (b), to add a new paragraph as follows:— ‘(c) Inns, restaurants, board and lodging houses, milk bars, public dance halls, communal halls, halls owned by local authorities, cafés and refreshment rooms’.” Amendment, by leave, withdrawn. Question—“That the section stand part of the Bill”—put: the Committee divided: For, 6; Against, 2. For:—Minister for Defence, Deputies Brennan, Carter, Colley, Gallagher and Hilliard. Against:—Deputies S. Collins and Cowan. The Question was declared carried accordingly. (ii) Section 39. Amendment proposed (Deputy Cowan): “In line 15 to delete the words ‘or according to rules of procedure’.” Amendment, by leave, withdrawn. Section agreed to. (iii) Sections 40 to 43 inclusive, agreed to. (iv) Section 44. Amendment proposed (Deputy Cowan): “To delete subsection (3).” Amendment, by leave, withdrawn Section agreed to. (v) Section 45. Amendment proposed (Deputy Cowan): “In subsection (1), line 17, to insert after the word ‘him’ the words ‘or in the interests of the service’.” Amendment, by leave, withdrawn. Section agreed to. (vi) Section 46. Amendment proposed (Deputy Cowan): “In subsection (1), lines 26 and 27, to delete the words ‘for a period not exceeding three years’ and substitute the words ‘and allowances for a period not exceeding one year’.” Amendment, by leave, withdrawn. Amendment proposed (Deputy Cowan): “To delete subsection (2).” Amendment, by leave, withdrawn. Section agreed to. (vii) Section 47. Amendment proposed (Deputy Cowan): “To delete subsection (2).” Amendment, by leave, withdrawn. Amendment proposed (Deputy Cowan): “In subsection (4), paragraph (b), line 41, to delete the words ‘subject to such conditions as may be prescribed’.” Amendment, by leave, withdrawn.
