The following members were present:— Deputy V. de Valera (in the Chair); the Minister for Defence, Deputies Brennan, Carter, Colley, Cowan, Davern Hilliard and McQuillan. 3. Consideration of Bill. The Committee resumed consideration of the Bill. (i) Section 18 agreed to. (ii) Section 19. Amendment proposed (Deputy Cowan): “In paragraph (b), line 49, to delete the word ‘are’.”. Amendment, by leave, withdrawn. Amendment proposed (Deputy Cowan): “In paragraph (b), line 51, to insert after the word ‘Force’ the words ‘in accordance with the provisions of this Act, and of the Regulations made thereunder’.” Amendment, by leave, withdrawn. Section agreed to. (iii) Section 20. Amendment proposed (Deputy Cowan): “After paragraph (a) to add a new paragraph as follows:— ‘(b) officers of the Permanent Defence Forces who have retired therefrom on pension and are under the age of 65 years’.” Amendment, by leave, withdrawn. Amendment proposed (Deputy Cowan): “In subsection (1), page 25, line 30, to insert after the word ‘quarters’ the words ‘training grounds, recreation grounds.” Amendment, by leave, withdrawn. Amendment proposed (Deputy Cowan): “To delete subsection (2).” Amendment, by leave, withdrawn. Section agreed to. (ix) Section 31. Amendment proposed (Deputy Cowan): “In subsection (2), line 19, to delete the words ‘ten pounds’ and substitute the words ‘one hundred pounds or to imprisonment for a period not exceeding six months or, at the discretion of the Court, to both such fine and such imprisonment’.” Amendment, by leave, withdrawn. Section agreed to. (x) Sections 32, 33 and 34 agreed to. (xi) Section 35. Amendment proposed (Deputy Cowan): “In subsection (1), page 28, paragraph (c), line 5, to delete the words ‘fifty pounds’ and substitute the words ‘one hundred pounds or to imprisonment for a period not exceeding six months or, at the discretion of the Court, to both such fine and such imprisonment’.” Amendment, by leave, withdrawn. Section agreed to. (xii) Section 36 agreed to. (xiii) Section 37. Question—“That the section stand part of the Bill”—put: the Committee divided: For, 6; Against, 1. For:—Minister for Defence, Deputies Carter, Colley, Davern, Hilliard and McQuillan. Against:—Deputy Cowan. The Question was declared carried accordingly.
