1. The Committee met at 4 p.m.


2. Members Present.


The following members were present:—


Deputy V. de Valera (in the Chair), the Minister for Defence, Deputies Brennan, Carter, Colley, Cowan, Davern, Hilliard, McEoin, MacFheorais, and McQuillan.


3. Consideration of Bill.


The Committee resumed consideration of the Bill.


(i) Section 11 postponed.


(ii) Section 12.


Amendment proposed (Deputy Cowan):


“In subsection (2), paragraph (c), line 30, after the word ‘Force’ to add the words ‘or an officer of the Reserve Defence Force when he is ordered or employed on service or duty for which as an officer of the Reserve Defence Force he is liable’.”


Question put: the Committee divided For, 2; Against, 5.


For:—Deputies Cowan and McQuillan.


Against:—Minister for Defence, Deputies Carter, Colley, Hilliard and Mac Eoin.


The Question was declared negatived accordingly.


Amendment proposed (Deputy Cowan):


“In subsection (2) paragraph(d), line 32, to delete the word ‘five’ and substitute the word ‘three’.”

For:—Deputies Cowan and McQuillan.


Against:—Minister for Defence, Deputies Brennan, Carter, Colley, Davern, Hilliard and Mac Eoin.


The Question was declared negatived accordingly.
