APPENDIX XVI.PRINTING PROCEEDINGS OF DAIL EIREANN.In accordance with the undertaking given to the Chairman in the course of the evidence on the Stationery Office Vote, I have gone into the matter of printing the proceedings of Dáil Eireann. The publication of the Debates in weekly form, with cover, was adopted as an economy in the present emergency. The Debates when published in the weekly edition are final for all purposes, that is to say the bound volumes are merely a series of bound weekly parts, provided with an index. The return to publication of the Debates in daily parts, with subsequent reprinting of these parts from standing type, with the incorporation therein of any necessary alterations made by members of the Oireachtas, so as to provide the matter for bound volumes, would involve additional expenditure over present costs (a) in case of Dáil Debates assuming 3,480 pages as in 1939-40, £1,174 per annum, and (b) in case of Seanad Debates and assuming 1,650 pages as in 1939-40, £556 per annum. The total extra cost involved therefore in a change over to the procedure, which the Chairman of Public Accounts Committee envisaged, would approximate to £1,730 per annum. (Signed) S. C. OFAOILLEACHAIN. Ceannasaí. Oifig an tSolathair, 5th June, 1941. |
