Foreword

The Joint Committee on European Affairs has been charged by the Oireachtas to consider draft EU legislation.

The Joint Committee decided in its 1999 work programme to pay special attention to existing EU Commission proposals for changes in the transport sector and in particular proposals for changes in combined transport and railways and railway infrastructure.

The Joint Committee wishes to thank the representatives of the Dept. of Public Enterprise, the Irish Road Hauliers Association, the Dublin Port Company, Dublin Chamber of Commerce and Iarnród Eireann for the presentations they made to the Joint Committee.

The Joint Committee requests that this report be the subject of a debate in each House.
