2. The total Exchequer grant-in-aid to SFADCo from the Tourism and Transport Vote was £1.541 million. The Company allocated £139,000 towards new tourism development functions for Mid-West region, transferred to it in January 1988 and previously carried out by the Shannonside RTO. The balance of their operating budget for tourism development in that year was derived principally from contributions from local authorities and tourism interests in the Mid-West region, and from commercial income generated by the Company, e.g. accommodation reservation fees, brochure fees etc.

3. The Company used the remainder of the grant-in-aid, £1.4 million, for traffic development functions which have been with the Company since 1959, viz:

the development of air traffic to and through Shannon Airport;

the development of tourist facilities at or near the Airport, e.g. Bunratty Castle and Folk Park, to attract terminal traffic;

and a further £0.2 million was provided by way of non-voted capital in 1988 from the Exchequer which was expended by the Company on development works at Bunratty Castle and Folk Park.
