Committee Reports::Annual Report No. 01 - Joint Committee on the Irish Language 1985/86::16 July, 1986::Appendix

APPENDIX A

Letter to the Members of both Houses

10 Iúil 1985

Chuig gach Comhalta (Dáil Éireann agus Seanad Éireann)

Mar is eol duit, chuir Tithe an Oireachtais an Comhchoiste seo ar bun le déanaí d’fhonn athbhreithniú agus moltaí a dhéanamh i dtaobh:

“(a)úsáid na Gaeilge a leathadh in imeachtaí na Dála agus an tSeanaid agus i dtimpeallacht an dá Theach; agus

(b)cur chun cinn na Gaeilge i gcoitinne”.

Faoi réir ár dtéarmaí tagartha caithfimid tuarascáil a thabhairt do na Tithe agus tá beartaithe againn díriú ar (a) thuas i dtosach.

Ar ndóigh, tá fonn orainn tuairimí na gComhaltaí maidir le comhlíonadh ár dtéarmaí tagartha a fháil sula leagtar moltaí faoi bhráid na dTithe.

Bheadh an Comhchoiste buíoch díot mar sin as aon tuairimí praiticiúla, fiú más réamh-thuairimí iad, a bheadh agat i ndáil le (a) de théarmaí tagartha an Choiste.

To each Member (Dáil Éireann and Seanad Éireann)

As you will know, the Houses recently established this Joint Committee whose functions are to review and make recommendations in relation to:

“(a) the extension of the use of Irish in the proceedings of the Dail and Seanad and in the environs of both Houses, and

(b) the promotion of the Irish language in general”.

We are obliged under our terms of reference to report to the Houses and at present we have decided to concentrate on (a) above.

Naturally, we are anxious to have the benefit of any views that Members may have on the implementation of our terms of reference before we proceed to make recommendations to the Houses.

The Joint Committee would be grateful therefore for any practical suggestions, even of a preliminary nature, you may have on item (a) of the Committee’s terms of reference.

Le gach deá ghuí

Donncha Ó Gallchobhair TD

Cathaoirleach an Chomhchoiste don Ghaeilge
