Letter dated 20 March 1986 from the Chairman of the Select Committee to the Minister for JusticeAPPENDIX X20 March, 1986. Dear Minister, I refer to the recent telephone conversation between your Office and the Clerk to the Committee about my invitation to you to attend a private meeting with the Vice-Chairman and myself. As requested by your Office, the following are the matters which the Committee would like to see discussed: (1)Co-operation between the Committee, the Department and the Garda Commissioner in relation to the Committee’s examination of the role of the Garda Siochana. (2)Orders of Reference. The Committee still wishes to have its Orders of Reference amended to enable it to examine witnesses in public. (3)Spike Island. The Committee is anxious that it be supplied with additional information in relation to the riot on Spike Island and that you meet with the full Committee to discuss the events surrounding that riot. As the Vice-Chairman will be out of the country for a few weeks, he has asked me to request you, if at all possible, to meet with us on or before next Wednesday the 26th March. I look forward to hearing from you. Yours sincerely, _______________________ Dr. Michael Woods T.D. Chairman Mr. Alan Dukes T.D., Minister for Justice. |
