Committee Reports::Report - Proposal to Establish a Centralised State Agency for Persons Registering for Employment or Training::31 May, 1984::Appendix

APPENDIX 3

LETTER TO THE CLERK TO THE COMMITTEE FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION

I refer to previous correspondence concerning the establishing of a centralised agency for employment/training.

The Civil Service Commission is the recruiting agency for all established posts in this Department. For unestablished posts, the National Manpower Service and the National Rehabilitation Board are invited to send forward candidates for interview.

Training opportunities for the Department’s staff are provided by the Civil Service Training Centre and the Institute of Public Administration.

The Vocational Education Committees are also involved in the areas of employment and training. Mr. Langford C.E.O. of the City of Cork V.E.C. is one of the nominees of the Minister of Labour to the AnCO Council. This Department is also represented on the Council. It is this Department’s opinion that the rationalisation of the agencies involved in employment and training in this area is highly desirable. It is considered that this might best be achieved by appointing an ad hoc Working Group comprising one or two representatives from the various agencies concerned rather than establishing another statutory organisation.

A further letter will be sent as soon as possible concerning the H.E.A. and other educational bodies.

Mise, le meas,
