Letter sent by the Committee to the Office of Public Works

The Chairman of the Committee on Public Expenditure, Mr. Michael Keating, T.D., has asked me to thank you for attending the meeting of the Committee on Tuesday last, 24 January.

You will recall that the Committee requested additional information to enable it to consider further the overall question of rental of accommodation for Government Departments/Offices i.e. (i) full details on costs and dates of completion of the works in question at Kilmainham and (ii) a precise breakdown of relevant details for each project before the Committee and the steps involved up to date of actual occupation. (iii) average price paid per sq. ft. for property (O P W and Commercial). (iv) O.P.W. comments on the accuracy of an article published in the “Sunday Independent” on 13 March, 1984. (v) details of unoccupied buildings prior to 1981, say, 1973 to 1980 inclusive, including rents paid.

Any other information which would be helpful to the Committee would be appreciated.
