1. The Committee met at 11 a.m.

2. Members Present

The following members were present:—

Deputies N. Andrews, Belton, C. Murphy, O’Toole and Woods.

3. Election of Chairman

Motion made (Deputy C. Murphy):

“That Deputy O’Toole be Chairman of the Committee”.

Question put and agreed to.

Deputy O’Toole took the chair accordingly.

4. The Committee deliberated.

5. Ordered: That the sittings of the Committee be held in private.

6. Consideration of Appropriation Accounts 1977

Consideration of Appropriation Accounts for the period 1 January 1977 to 31 December 1977 was begun. The following Accounts were disposed of:

Houses of the Oireachtas, Department of the Taoiseach, An Chomhairle Ealaíon, Office of the Attorney General, Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Valuation and Ordnance Survey, Rates on Government Property, Central Statistics Office, Roinn na Gaeltachta, Defence, Army Pensions.

7. Witnesses Examined

Mr. M. J. Healy (Clerk of the Dáil), Mr. D. Ó Súilleabháin (Secretary, Department of the Taoiseach), Mr. D. Quigley (Chief Legal Assistant, Office of the Attorney General), Mr. S. P. O’Leary (Senior Legal Assistant, Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions), Mr. D. F. Ryan (Commissioner of Valuation), Mr. T. P. Linehan (Director, Central Statistics Office), Mr. L. Tóibín (Secretary, Roinn na Gaeltachta), Mr. M. P. Healy (Secretary, Department of Defence) and the Comptroller and Auditor General were examined.

8. Interim Report of Committee

The Chairman brought forward a Draft Interim Report for consideration.

Draft Interim Report agreed to.

Ordered: To report to the Dáil accordingly.

9. Adjournment

The Committee adjourned at 12.55 p.m. until 11 a.m. on Thursday next.
