Committee Reports::Report No. 06 - Aer Rianta Teoranta::14 November, 1979::Appendix

APPENDIX 9

LETTER TO CLERK TO JOINT COMMITTEE FROM TRANS WORLD AIRLINES

I refer to your letter of 18 May and to our recent telephone conversation.

In general terms TWA have been pleased with their relationship with Aer Rianta.

There are however a couple of comments which we feel might be of interest to you.

We would very much like Aer Rianta to be an autonomous Semi-State company. I know that legislation has been pending for a long time, but nevertheless, at present Aer Rianta is merely an agent of the Department of Transport and Power.

If it were an autonomous body, we believe we would have more realistic discussions with them when we are asked to pay increased landing fees.

Also, if Aer Rianta were an autonomous body they could provide the airlines with handling agency services. At present such services are exclusively handled by Aer Lingus.

I would be glad to discuss these matters with you further, if you so wish.

Yours sincerely,

LIAM BOYD,

General Manager-Ireland.
