APPENDIX 11

LETTER TO CLERK TO JOINT COMMITTEE FROM CÓRAS TRACHTÁLA

I refer to your letter of 2nd April last to Mr. Seán Condon, Chief Executive of Córas Trachtála, regarding the operations of Córas Iompair Éireann.

The contact which Córas Tráchtála has had with Córas Iompair Éireann over the years has been of a very limited nature. Córas Tráchtála is primarily concerned with the transport of goods out of the country, and only insofar as Córas Iompair Éireann’s internal freight services impinge on the export transport arrangements has there been any contact. On occasions, this organisation has been asked to make representation to Córas Iompair Éireann regarding delays in the handling of goods. In the course of any one year, these complaints would not have amounted to more than six in number, and they have been dealt with expeditiously and efficiently by CIE staff.

The only other area where CTT would have contact with CIE would be in connection with the operation of Rosslare port. In this connection it is our understanding that CIE is closely involved in the operation of the Rosslare port. This organisation would welcome the opportunity of commenting on proposals for the long term development of the port.

Yours sincerely
