HOUSES OF THE OIREACHTAS—EXPENDITURE ON REMUNERATION OF OFFICERS AND STAFF

During the proceedings of the Committee on 9 March, 1978, I undertook to submit a note explaining the increase in expenditure under Subhead E (Salaries, Wages, and Allowances of Officers and Staff of the Houses of the Oireachtas) in the year 1975 over the nine-month period 1 April—31 December, 1974.


Expenditure in 1975 amounted to £495,200 approximately, and in the nine—month period of 1974 it amounted to £271,500 approximately—an increase of £223,700. When the nine-month period of 1974 is converted to a period of 1 year the increase is £133,200 approximately or on a percentage basis about 37%. These figures are arrived at as follows:—
