APPENDIX 7.RUNNING COSTS OF COMPREHENSIVE AND COMMUNITY SCHOOLS13 Aibreán, 1976. Mr. F. Geoghegan, Secretary, Committee of Public Accounts, Dáil Éireann, Baile Átha Cliath, 2. A Chara, I should like to refer to question 343 of the proceedings of the Public Accounts Committee on 22nd January, 1976, Vote 28—Secondary Education, and to forward the following for the information of the Committee: A saving arose on subhead J1 of Vote 29—Running costs of Comprehensive and Community Schools due to the fact that a number of accounts were not presented in time for payment within the year. The position was that eleven new schools came into operation in the financial year 1973/’74 and some of them experienced difficulty in balancing their monthly accounts and in submitting them to the Department. There was also delay by firms in submitting their accounts to the Boards of Management of the schools. This resulted in a substantial carry-over to the next financial year. Monthly expenditure from school budgets has since been more closely monitored by the Department with a view to ensuring that any carry-over of payments will be minimised as far as possible. Mise, le meas, D. Ó LAOGHAIRE, An Runaí, An Roinn Oideachais. |
