1. The Committee met at 11 a.m.


2. Members present.


The following members were present:—


Deputy Patrick Hogan (in the Chair), Deputies Barrett, Briscoe, R. Burke, E. Collins, FitzGerald, H. Gibbons, Nolan, MacSharry, Treacy, and Tunney.


3. Mr. E. F. Suttle (Comptroller and Auditor General) was in attendance in an advisory capacity.


4. Ordered: that if the Committee became satisfied that money went to provide aid for the victims of the disturbances in the Six Counties, it would not be essential to examine every recipient, and that every case could be considered ad hoc.


5. Ordered: not to engage counsel to sit with the Committee, this decision to be reviewed when circumstances required it.


6. Ordered: that Mr. C. H. Murray, Secretary, Department of Finance be requested to attend on 7 January 1971.


7. Ordered: to request Mr. C. H. Murray (i) to send to the Committee as soon as possible 20 copies of a submission supplementary to that of 9 December containing such further information as has come into his power or control, (ii) to send to the Committee by 30th December 20 copies of such documents as are necessary to support the submission, (iii) to send to the Committee as soon as possible 20 copies of such of the latter documents as are not considered to put persons at risk, (iv) to bring with him to the meeting, a note of the individuals referred to in note (i) of his Department’s submission of 9 December 1970.*


8. Ordered: to request the Irish Red Cross Society to send to the Committee as soon as possible 20 copies of the audited accounts of the Society for the period July 1969 to December 1970.


9. Adjournment.


The Committee adjourned at 1.30 p.m. until 11.30 a.m. on 7 January 1971.
