With reference to my examination before the Committee on Public Accounts, I wish to state in relation to the correspondence with Córas Iompair Éireann on school transport, that the Department’s letter to CIE dated 28th May, 1969 set out the terms agreed to following negotiations with the company by the Departments of Education and Finance. A copy of this letter was sent to the Comptroller and Auditor General on 30th May, 1969.

The only outstanding item was the question of the allowance to be made in respect of absenteeism among children allowed free transport on public scheduled services. Agreement has been reached on this point and the Comptroller and Auditor General has been notified accordingly.
