Cléireach an Choiste,

Dáil Éireann

Further to the Public Accounts meeting the following are the details relevant to the appointments of the Librarian and Assistant Restorer in the year 1968/69:—

6th July, 1968:

Formal written application to Minister for Education for post of Librarian and Assistant Restorer. Approval in principle given in conversation by Minister.

1st April, 1968:

Salary of Librarian and of Assistant Restorer included in estimates.

9th September, 1968:

E.55/2/89. Sanction given for appointments.

17th October, 1968:

Advertisements appeared in Press.

15th November, 1968:

Interviews held.

12th December, 1968:

Posts taken up.

There is no improvement in the situation and during the past financial year the salary for an Assistant Restorer for Prints and Drawings has been included in the Estimates but sanction has not been received from the Department of Education. Although we have written repeatedly and rung up, we have received no replies to our communications and we understand that the Department is extremely busy and unable to deal with such matters.
