MOY DRAINAGE SCHEME: USE OF TRUCK

During my examination on 5th December last I was asked to supply further information in connection with paragraph 22 of the Comptroller and Auditor General’s Report, 1967-68.

I have been advised that, in order to allow for breakdowns and repairs, the complement of vehicles held at the Shannon Embankments was the minimum consistent with prudence. The embankments stretch along the estuary for a considerable distance. Ground conditions were very bad and in places the difficulties of working were aggravated by tides. While the truck in question was at Shannon it was in fact used on a few occasions for short periods. These were not entered in the log book. Instructions have since been given that all periods of use must be recorded.
