TELEX SUBSCRIBERS AND CHARGES.

During my examination by the Public Accounts Committee on the 2nd March, 1967, I undertook to furnish particulars of the charges for telex subscribers in Dublin as compared with those in the provinces and to supply the number of telex subscribers in each county.

All telex subscribers are connected to the exchange in Dublin. Telex call charges are the same for Metropolitan and Provincial subscribers. The annual rental payable depends, however, on the distance from the telex exchange. The standard annual rental of £160 per annum covers the provision and maintenance of teleprinter equipment, and line up to 10 miles radial distance from the exchange. Subscribers outside that radial distance pay a rental which includes an excess mileage charge calculated as follows:

Over 10 up to 55 miles			..	..	..	£1 10s. per mile per annum in excess of 10 miles.
Over 55 miles	..	..	..	..	..	£ 1 per mile per annum in excess of 55 miles.

The number of telex subscribers in each county on 14th March, 1967, is given in the following table:—
