Committee Reports::Interim and Final Report - Appropriation Accounts 1964 - 1965::17 November, 1966::Appendix

APPENDIX VIII.

QUERIES ON TELEPHONE ACCOUNTS.

Cléireach an Choiste,

Coiste um Chuntais Phoiblí.

At the proceedings of the Committee on 8th June, 1966, I was asked to give some details about the volume of queries in relation to telephone accounts. Approximately 150,000 accounts are issued each quarter at present, and approximately 5,500 queries are received. The great majority of the queries are disposed of by furnishing more detailed information about points raised. In the small proportion of cases in which the accuracy of some aspect of an account is still questioned by a subscriber, a thorough examination of the matter is carried out, and every effort is made to satisfy the subscriber: consequently there is sometimes considerable delay in clearing a disputed account. The number of such accounts is, however, very small and they have no significant effect on the general collection of accounts within the quarter.

The number of accounts issued is increasing by about 10,000 a year and there is a corresponding growth in queries. The mechanisation of the accounting system did not give rise to any noticeable increase.
