I am directed by the Select Committee on Statutory Instruments to refer to paragraph 10 of the First Report (T. 152-Pr. 3001) of the Select Committee on Statutory Instruments dated 5th May, 1955, in which it was recommended that schedules to statutory instruments should be properly attested by appearing above the signature of the Minister. This recommendation has since been generally adopted but the Committee notes that it was not followed in the case of the Garda Síochána Pay and Allowances Order, 1961. It would be glad to have the observations of your Department in the matter.

With reference to your minute of 12 Aibreán, 1962, regarding the Garda Síochána Pay and Allowances Order, 1961, I am directed by the Minister for Justice to state that it is regretted that on the occasion of the signing of this Order the recommendation in paragraph 10 of the First Report of the Select Committee on Statutory Instruments, dated 5th May, 1955, was overlooked. The recommendation has been followed in the case of a more recent Order (Garda Síochána Pay Order, 1961) which substitutes new rates of pay for the rates set out in the Schedule to the Order to which you refer, and steps are being taken to ensure that the recommendation will be followed in future.
