An Cléireach,

An Coiste um Chuntais Phoiblí.

During my examination by the Committee of Public Accounts on the 21st March, 1963, I undertook to supply information regarding the remuneration of the Agent, who purchases the cattle required by the Department for the supply of meat to the Dublin and Curragh Military Districts, and the numbers of cattle purchased.

The Agent is remunerated at the rate of 5/- per beast in respect of the first 150 cattle purchased monthly and at the rate of 3s. 6d. per beast in respect of the number of cattle over and above 150 purchased during the same month. He is liable to pay the Department 12½% in respect of the loss arising out of carcases of any cattle bought by him being certified by the appropriate veterinary authorities as unfit for consumption.

The numbers of cattle bought by the Agent for the Dublin and Curragh Military Districts in the financial year 1961/62 were 302 and 204 respectively.
