APPENDIX XIII.

F81/2/247.

COSTS OF PROTECTION WORKS AND OF ACQUISITION OF CERTAIN PROPERTIES.

Cléireach an Choiste,

Coiste um Chuntais Phoiblí.

During my examination before the Public Accounts Committee on 7th instant, I was asked to supply additional information regarding three matters. I now append the information sought.

(i) The present estimated costs of the Swilly Embankments Scheme and the Shannon Estuary Scheme are £93,000 and £500,000 respectively.

(ii) The total purchase price of 21 Parliament St., Dublin was £21,000.

(iii) Birr (Crinkle) former Military Barracks on an area of about 43 acres was held at an annual rent of £314 1s. 4d. The fee simple was acquired for a sum of £3,150, with a view to re-sale of the property. (It might perhaps be mentioned that the rent of £314 1s. 4d. originally covered a much larger area than the 43 acres, but in the last century the British War Department sold the balance, indemnifying it against the payment of any part of the head rent.)
