ELECTION OF CHAIRMAN.

1. Deputy Booth.—I have great pleasure in proposing that Deputy Jones take the Chair. He distinguished himself previously in the same position.

Deputy Carter.—I second the proposal.

Question put and agreed to.

DEPUTY JONES took the chair.

Chairman.—I am very grateful for the honour that has been conferred upon me and I should like to thank the proposer and seconder and members of the Committee. The membership of the Committee with one exception is the same as last year. Last year we got through a large volume of work, indeed, in a short period with the co-operation of the Deputies, the assistance of the Auditor-General’s Office and the various officials who appeared before us. I am hopeful that on this occasion again we can do a like job and that there will be no undue delay in dealing with it. I think everybody is familiar with the procedure. So far as the Chair is concerned, it will protect the rights of members of the Committee to ask all relevant questions on which they desire information. I understand that we have one new Deputy—Deputy Lalor who has asked to be excused as he is unable to be present today.

The committee adjourned.
