APPENDIX XIV.DUN LAOGHAIRE HARBOUR: DUES AND OTHER CHARGES.Cléireach an Choiste, An Coiste um Chuntais Phoiblí. During my examination before the Public Accounts Committee I undertook to supply information concerning dues and other charges made at Dun Laoghaire. Harbour. The main users of the Harbour are the Mail Boats operated by British Railways. They are charged a special rate and provide approximately 90% of the Harbour revenue. There is a standard schedule of rates and dues applicable to other vessels using the Harbour which is based on the schedule in force at the port of Dublin. The Dun Laoghaire schedule is at present under review. How best increased revenue could be obtained from owners of yachts is also being examined and it is hoped to introduce a new system of charging soon. The only charges now made on pleasure craft using the Harbour are— (1) 10/- per season on yachts of under 15 tons, and £1 per season on yachts of over 15 tons, for use of the yacht storage ground, and (2) a crane charge of 7/6d. for each occasion on which a crane is used. Under Section 70 of the Dublin Port and Docks Act, 1902, it was provided that it would not be obligatory on the Commissioners of Kingstown Harbour (now the Commissioners of Public Works) to charge any dues on, inter alia, vessels carrying stores for the use of the Commissioners of Irish Lights. It has not since been the practice to charge any dues on Irish Lights vessels. (Signed) H. J. MUNDOW, Accounting Officer, Office of Public Works. 21 Márta, 1960. |
