POST OFFICE STORES: STOCKTAKING ADJUSTMENT.

During my examination by the Committee of Public Accounts on the 15th December, 1960, I undertook to furnish information as to why the amount of the stocktaking adjustment in Appendix II to the Appropriation Account for the Office of the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs for the year 1959-60 was larger than in the immediately preceding years.

The adjustment represents the net value of discrepancies (mainly mispostings) disclosed by the latest stocktaking modified by investigations during the period prior to the preparation of the Appendix.

In 1958-59 and 1957-58 the investigations had reached an unusually advanced stage when the Appendix was prepared.

(The adjustments shown in the five years of account preceding 1959-60 were: £366; £211; £970; £2,062; £2,270.)
