APPENDIX XVIII.FINANCIAL STATEMENT REGARDING FISHING VESSELS OPERATED BY AN BORD IASCAIGH MHARA.Cléireach, An Coiste um Chuntais Phoiblí. Qns. 298-302; 310. At the proceedings of the Public Accounts Committee on 12th December, 1958, I undertook to supply, for the convenience of the Committee, information from the audited accounts of An Bord Iascaigh Mhara, about the three offshore fishing vessels operated by the Board. A statement in the matter is enclosed. The expenditure of £8,000, by way of grant from subhead E.7 of the Fisheries Vote, 1957-58, on the adaptation of two of the vessels for training purposes is reflected as added capital value of the vessels. Normal capital expenditure on the vessels has been financed by means of repayable advances from the Central Fund. Advances totalling £95,000 have been made and the balance outstanding at 31st March, 1958, was £84,689. One of the vessels was re-engined in April, 1956, and the other two in April, 1958. Before completion of re-engining the vessels were laid up as follows:— Loch Léin from August, 1955, to April, 1956, Loch Laoi from May, 1956, to April, 1958, and Loch Lorgan from May, 1957, to April, 1958. The laying up of the vessels necessarily led to a reduction in the quantity of fish for sale but, of course, charges for depreciation and interest continued. (Signed) T.
