1. The Committee met at 4 p.m.


2. Members Present.


The following members were present:


Deputy S. Flanagan (in the Chair), the Minister for Agriculture and Deputy O’Donnell, Senators Lenihan and Ryan.


3. Destructive Insects and Pests (Consolidation) Bill, 1957.


The Committee resumed consideration of the Bill.


(i) Section 10.


Question again proposed:—“That the section stand part of the Bill.”


Question put, and agreed to.


(ii) Section 11.


Amendment proposed (Minister for Agriculture):


“In subsection (2), line 39, to delete ‘1st day of March’ and substitute ‘1st day of June’.”


Amendment agreed to.


Section, as amended, agreed to.


(iii) Schedule agreed to.


(iv) Postponed section 3.


Amendment proposed (Minister for Agriculture):


“In subsection (2), paragraph (d), line 43, before ‘as’ to insert ‘or other charge’.”

(v) Title.


Amendment proposed (Minister for Agriculture):


“In page 4, line 8, to add, at the end of the title:—


‘and certain other enactments relating to destructive insects and pests’.”

4. Report of the Committee.


The Chairman brought forward a Draft Report which was read as follows:—


“The Committee has considered the Bill. It has made certain amendments which appear to it to be necessary to the improvement of the form of the Bill and has amended the Title to read as follows:—


AN ACT TO CONSOLIDATE THE DESTRUCTIVE INSECTS AND PESTS ACTS, 1877 TO 1954, AND CERTAIN OTHER ENACTMENTS RELATING TO DESTRUCTIVE INSECTS AND PESTS.


The Committee is of the opinion that the Bill, as amended, represents the existing law.”


Motion made (Deputy O’Donnell):


“That the Chairman’s Draft Report be the Report of the Committee.”
