COST TO STATE OF WORKS UNDER LAND PROJECT.

With reference to the inquiry on the subject at the meeting of the Committee of Public Accounts on the 9th October, I have to state that the average approximate net cost to the State of works carried out under the Land Project, exclusive of administrative expenses, is:—


Section A—£10 per acre.


Section B—£37 per acre.


Work done under Section A usually comprises minor drainage, clearance of scattered furze and light scrub, removal of fences, etc. Section B work comprises intensive drainage, clearance of dense scrub and boulders, removal of fences and the application of lime and phosphates up to a maximum of £5 per acre.
