Committee Reports::Report No. 01 (1958) - Statutory Instruments [20]::11 July, 1958::Appendix

APPENDIX VI.

Labourers Order, 1957.

Rúnaí,

Roinn Rialtais Aitiúil.

I am directed by the Select Committee on Statutory Instruments to state that it has had under consideration the Labourers Order, 1957 which was laid before Seanad Éireann pursuant to statute on 28th June, 1957. The Committee notes that the Order was made on 7th June, 1957 and in accordance with its terms of reference it has to consider whether there was unjustifiable delay in laying the instrument before Seanad Éireann. The Committee would be glad to receive a memorandum on this point and, as it would like to consider the matter at its next meeting, the favour of a reply before 31st October, 1957 would be appreciated.

M. G. KILROY,

Cléireach an Rogha-Choiste.

29 Meán Fómhair, 1957.

Cléireach,

Rogha-Choiste um Ionstraimí Reachtúla,

Seanad Éireann,

Baile Átha Cliath.

I am directed by the Minister for Local Government to refer to your minute of 29 Meán Fómhair, 1957, enquiring as to the delay in laying the Labourers Order, 1957 before Seanad Éireann and to state that it was intended to present printed copies of this Order within seven days of its being made but in fact printed copies were not available until a couple of days before the instrument was actually laid before the Seanad. The delay is regretted but it may be pointed out that section 31 of the Labourers Order, 1906, under which the presentation is required to be made gives no power of annulment.

J. GARVIN.

30 Deireadh Fómhair, 1957.
